Open Graph

A small set of meta tags stating a page title, description, image, and URL in a second, redundant form.

Also known as og tags. Updated .

What it means

Originally built for link previews on social platforms, Open Graph has become a reliable secondary source of a page title and summary for anything parsing the document.

The part a short definition leaves out

The value here is redundancy. When a parser trips on your primary markup, a second correct statement of the same facts is what saves the page from being described by whatever text happened to be nearest the top.
